First Ride With Kyle Murphy - Cannondale SuperSix Evo Disc

New to the Cylance Pro Cycling team for 2017, Kyle Murphy comes out of a standout 2016 season where his climbing and time trial abilities saw him contend for some of the most difficult races in America on multiple occasions. As one of our newest members of the men’s team, Kyle recently took the 2017 Cannondale Evo Disc out for its maiden voyage.  He was pretty excited to tell us how it went:

I spent a few days in the Santa Monica Mountains in Southern California with some friends of mine where it had been raining off and on. Mostly on. The third day out- we rode dirt Topanga to dirt Mulholland. I had to actually tone it back a bit on the dirt descents- what with the ample tire clearance and the disc brakes, I kept forgetting I wasn't on a cyclocross or mountain bike. It was stupid how fun it was.
On the first descent on the bike near where we were staying, off Valley Dr toward Old Topanga was when I really noticed the bike responded differently than I was used to- I wasn't planning on taking it at speed, but I'd had some coffee and got caught up in the fun of it! The bike feels super stable at top speed downhill.

Cannondale's idea behind disc is "Slow fast, Go fast," does this mean anything to you after riding the Evo Disc?

You can definitely leave the braking until pretty late. It’s fun and a little surprising. The modulation with the hydraulic breaks is so effortless that I'm worried my forearms are going to atrophy.
I was descending the rock store climb on Mulholland above Santa Monica in the rain with some friends. I didn't feel like I was taking any risks, or descending all that fast. However, when I got to the bottom, I was alone! A similar thing happened descending Fernwood to Topanga later in the day. After the ride, others were remarking how gnarly the conditions were. I felt so at ease in the rain on the discs.
Climbing out of the saddle the bike feels stiff and snappy- this is where you definitely can tell this thing is a road machine.
