Stage 7 of the Giro Rosa was the second individual time trial of the 10-day race (the first being a short 2km prologue). The stage covered 21.9 kilometers from Albisola Superiore to Varazze and featured two climbs in the first half of the stage (3km/5.6% and 2km/7.5%). Evelyn Stevens (Boels-Dolmans) came through with the best time, knocking Anna Van Der Breggen (Rabo-Liv) off the hot seat to take the win. Megan Guarnier (Boels-Dolmans) maintained her overall lead by finishing fourth place. Our own Doris Schweizer gave Cylance Pro Cycling our 3rd top ten performance by placing seventh on the stage. Doris sent in this report:
The TT-course was really challenging because it started with a 3km-flat sector, followed by a 3km climb (around 6% average). Then we had a short downhill followed by the 2nd climb (around 2km/8% average). This was a very important point because your legs are sore after not pedaling and going straight into a climb full gas. Then we had another few kms of flat before we went onto the long downhill down to the coast.
From the start I felt terrible & thought I am not doing well, but I could see the rider in front of me which was a good sign. And I know that when I have this feeling, I am fast ;-). Manel was a great support following me with the car and giving me some inputs during my ride. Cycling is teamwork and this time I also would like to say thank you to Jose, our mechanic, who always works so hard and I am super happy that I could give something back with this result!
For tomorrow I feel good, I recovered well and it`s a flat stage which I have to pay attention to not crash or loose time in the final sprint. We hope that we can achieve another Top 10-result with Sheyla.
