The five-day race through the hilly Basque region of Spain will feature the return of Krista Doebel-Hickok. The punchy climber has been recovering for a month in her native Los Angeles from a broken collar bone suffered earlier in the classics season. “One month ago I left Spain to have surgery,” said Krista, “and now I get to return to Spain to race with my Cylance Pro Cycling teammates; I’m a lucky girl!”

The Emakumeen Bira is a UCI 2.1 race held in the Basque region of Spain. It has been held annually since 1988, starting out as a two-stage race and building up to five stages in 2007. The race starts with a short prologue in Iurreta of 3.3km followed by stage 1 the following day in Eskoriatza completing 76.6km. Stage 2 is the longest stage of the race from Etxarri to Urkiola and features a summit finish after its 109.5km are completed that is certain to shake up GC. Stage 3 is a hilly circuit through Berriatua covering 109.4km. The race comes to its ultimate conclusion on the final day in Portgalete on what could be a day for the sprinters after a difficult 75.8km have had their say.
