For the past seven weeks, Alison Tetrick has been performing an exercise protocol designed by RPM2 to help monitor and address her recovery from a serious injury that significantly affected her symmetry between her right and left legs. Today Alison checks in to discuss what changes when an athlete transitions between the race season and the off-season:
Transitioning from a race season to the off season is a relief for some, and also a bit daunting. You have to process your year, and also be able to analyze all the ups and down that are entailed. In cycling, we go up up up, and we sure can fall down! This year was full of so much racing and also some pretty brutal crashes. My body is now just trying to sort out the damage and also repair, recover, and get ready for next year.
Coming home after a full year of racing, the first think you do is get to all the doctors and medical appointments you need. I can fit my RPM2 routine into now my normal protocol of checking on the injuries and also getting prescribed treatments to help balance my body out. The RPM2 exercises will help initiate new strength and balance without as much intensity and hours on the bike. I will also be going to physical therapy for my shoulder as well as getting some of the connective tissues worked on from the broken ribs. This year was a painful, but also so beautiful. I can still feel all those races in my body so I am excited to watch the healing and recovering begin to get even more out of my mind, body, and new found balance next year.
Alison will be sharing some of her exercises on her social media, while RPM2 will continue to work with Cylance Pro Cycling to analyze her results on a weekly basis.
